Resumen

Objective: This study investigates the key drivers of subjective happiness among Mexicans, analysing how economic conditions, family dynamics, social relationships, and demographic characteristics collectively influence well-being. The research responds to Mexico's fluctuating happiness trends in global indices, specifically examining the recent recovery in national well-being after periods of decline. By identifying these determinants, the study provides evidence-based insights for policymakers and stakeholders to develop targeted interventions that promote and sustain happiness across Mexican society.

Methodology: The research utilized a comprehensive literature review and secondary data analysis approach. Sources included national surveys like ENBIARE, economic reports (e.g., GDP, income statistics), and peer-reviewed studies examining qualitative and quantitative aspects of happiness. Factors were analysed across different social and economic strata, considering urbanization, family cohesion, income levels, marginalization, and demographic variables such as age and gender.

Preliminary Findings: Economic growth in Mexico has contributed to an overall improvement in happiness; however, income alone is a weak predictor. Satisfaction of basic needs, more than wealth accumulation, emerged as a key factor. Family cohesion and social connectedness strongly correlate with higher happiness levels, providing emotional and practical support. Religious beliefs play a crucial role in marginalized groups. Urbanization has improved access to services, indirectly enhancing life satisfaction. Younger populations tend to report higher happiness due to optimism and life stage factors. Interestingly, gender does not significantly influence happiness levels. Regional differences were noted, with northern Mexicans generally reporting higher happiness compared to others.

The study highlights the multifaceted nature of happiness determinants in Mexico, emphasizing the interplay between economic stability, social support networks, urban living conditions, and cultural values.

Conclusion: Happiness in Mexico is multifaceted, driven by economic stability, familial support, and socio-demographic equity. Recommendations include strengthening social cohesion, improving urban living conditions, and enhancing purchasing power to further boost subjective well-being.
