Dr. Vitaveska Lanfranchi is a Senior Lecturer in Medical Computing at The University of Sheffield in the OAK group and in Sheffield Teaching Hospital and co-founder and director of K-Now ltd (a spin-off of The University of Sheffield) and co-founder of The Floow ltd. Her research has a wide interdisciplinary nature, both in industry and in academia, focusing on the intersection between ubiquitous computing, knowledge capture and visualization and human computer interaction in fields as diverse as emergency response, aerospace and more recently wellbeing. Her research aims to use user participatory design methods to develop novel methodologies and interfaces for ubiquitous and mobile computing, by employing sensing and tracking technologies to monitor user actions and analyse the data to reveal patterns and create intelligent systems that could influence users’ decision making and behavior.
Her work has a strong applied focus, designing and implementing applications for real-world scenarios, at all technology readiness levels. Vita has a long academic and industry experience: for the past three years, whilst on secondment from her research position, she has held the post of C.E.O. in K-Now, a University of Sheffield spin-out company focused on research and commercialization of knowledge management technologies. She has a long experience in stakeholder analysis and translation of stakeholders’ needs into technology, providing a useful link between technical innovation and user perspective. Vita has an extensive experience in applying for and managing multi-partner industrial and academic projects, and she is currently PI on an InnovateUKGrant (Precision in Medicine: Early Detection of Papilloedema and Diabetic Retinopathy, 2019-2020) and Co-I on a EU IMI2 grant (Mobilise-D, 2019-2024)." |
