Resumen

Laboratory mice are raised on healthy and unhealthy diets and their femoral bone is removed as a sample to determine if their elastic modulus is affected by said diet. To determine the modulus of elasticity (ME) we apply the pulsed photoacoustic technique (PA).

It is really important the characterization of the mechanical properties between the bones with good health and the ones with the condition diabetes T2DM.

The study is carried out in the region of the medial epicondyle and the femoral neck.

To obtain corresponding results, we measured the density of the bone using the mass and volume of each sample, as well as the determination of bone dimensions. The technique of photoacoustic pulsations allowed attaining the time to gain speed. The modulus of elasticity is defined as density times velocity squared.

The ongoing results indicate an average of 4GPa.
